While driving to his first job, a fiery object suddenly falls from the sky, which Jason is powerless to avoid. Ninety minutes later, Jason regains consciousness and resumes his delivery. At his destination, a gunfight erupts causing Jason to panic. Suddenly, his body and that of a downed thug become engulfed in light and flame, from which emerges a new Firestorm. His fun is interrupted by a voice from inside his head. Inside his mind, we see the thug attached to the Firestorm matrix, reaching out and talking to a startled Jason. Returning to the scene of the gunfight, Jason separates from the thug who no longer has a memory of the incident. Jason discovers that the package he was to deliver was destroyed and returns to apologize to Stevie. Late at night, Jason follows Stevie to confirm his suspicions that Stevie is involved in drugs. Stevie discovers Jason and stabs him in the stomach. Jason panics and once again merges with nearest person, who happens to be Stevie. Seeing an opportunity, Stevie immediately begins to try to manipulate Jason. Firestorm is confronted by Stevie's men. He instinctively stops their bullets. When he goes on the attack, he unintentionally brings down a building on several of Stevie's people. Stevie, as seen in the matrix, suddenly begins dissolving. Jason is powerless to stop the process.

Jason's troubled home plays before both of them. For the first time, we see Jason's mother's departure in the wake of Alvin's accident and the start of the abuse. Stevie tells Jason that that life is now over and he must begin thinking as a man with great power. Jason finds it in himself to gain more control over the matrix and releases Stevie, but it is too late. Stevie is killed when his separated body dissolves. Jason reminds himself that Stevie was trying to kill him and resolves to never be intimidated again. However, upon returning home, Jason is immediately subjected to his father's anger. Jason is still unable to stand up for himself. A call from Mick prevents the situation from turning violent. On the phone,

Alvin bursts into the restaurant and yells at Jason, humiliating him. Later that night, Jason climbs out his window. Jason encounters a homeless man in the park and merges with him. He begins flying as Firestorm, clearly enjoying himself. The homeless man, Preston, is concerned at first but also enjoys the experience. As they fly, they encounter Green Lantern (John Stewart) and Martian Manhunter, who probe him about Ronnie Raymond's dissappearance. We learn that a month has passed since Jason became Firestorm. Satisfied that Jason is well-intentioned and guiltless of Ronnie's dissappearance, the two leave to deal with an emergency. They leave a signal device with Jason. While Jason and Preston discuss the encounter, they come across a car accident. Descending to help, they find the two drivers dead. A woman emerges and introduces herself as Casey Krinsky. Preston soon becomes alarmed by the casual way Casey is acting on the scene of a fatal accident. She shows them her ability to absorb the properties of matter around her. Before Jason can react, Casey grabs him and attempts to absorb his powers. Jason launches into the sky in an attempt to shake her. During the scuffle, Casey turns into stone and plummets into a pond below.

After a while of looking at the device intensely, its molecular composition is opened to his view. At work, Jason hears news of a girl made of stone menacing an area west of the city. Realizing that this must be Casey, Jason leaves to confront her. Failing to find Preston at the park, Jason spots a female jogger. Before she can resist, he merges with her. Her name is Nicole Garcia, a policewoman who accuses Jason of assualt and kidnapping. Firestorm finds Casey, who has been transformed, and a fight ensues in which Casey holds the upper hand until she mysteriously implodes and returns to normal form. Jason, wanting to help a dieing Casey, uses the JLA signal device. Superman, then Flash appear to assist. Casey is taken to S.T.A.R. labs to be treated. Superman escorts Jason there, offering several pieces of advice. On the return trip to Detroit, Nicole tells Jason that she believes he's addicted to his powers.

Ronnie, after being stabbed by a magic sword during the pursuit of Identity Crisis suspects, flies high into the atmosphere to avoid exploding in the vicinity of others. His consciousness survives the explosion, but finds a lost Jason Rusch as a new host. Awaking from this dream, Jason begins his day with another one-sided argument with his father. While working in the yard, Jason's friend Mick appears, wondering what had happened to him. Jason, still in a bad mood, merges with Mick to show him exactly why he's been busy. As Firestorm, they visit the set of an adult film and, against Mick's objections, take revenge on a police officer that once assaulted them because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time and of the wrong color. Finally, the two decide to visit the JLA watchtower on the moon. There, Martian Manhunter confirms the information that Jason saw in his dreams. Batman chastizes Jason for his reckless behavior. He reveals that the family is nearly broke. As they talk, criminals enter the house and capture both Alvin and Jason. Luis Salvador, a powerful drug lord, is their leader. He is investigating the dissappearance of his local distributor, Stevie Golek. When the chance arises, Jason merges with Luis, but Luis takes control of Firestorm creating a new, terrifying Firestorm. His first order of business is to track down Travis Clevenger (AKA Bloodhound) and kill him for nearly putting him out of business three years ago. They find Clevenger as he's being moved from a hospital to prison. As Clevenger battles Luis from without, Jason struggles for control of Firestom from within. Between the two of them, they're able to subdue Luis long enough to end the Firestorm merger and escape before more of Luis's men appear. Clear's commentary on #7.

	Bloodhound #5 "Firestorm"

Jason and Clevenger fill each other in on what they know about the situation. When Luis's men show up, Clev takes them down brutally. As more men arrive, Jason attempts to merge with an unwilling Travis so he can solve the problem with Firestorm's powers, but Clev resists the merge. Clevenger solves the problem the old fashioned way - by tearing through the men with his fists and any other swingable object he can get his hands on. Finally, he overpoweres Luis. Jason merges with Luis, who is now cowered, and does... something to Luis to leave him frightened witless. When the authorities arrive, Clevenger gladly hops back into an ambulance, while Jason merges with a henchman and returns to Detroit. Clear's commentary on Bloodhound #5.

She is looking for more information about Ronnie Raymond on behalf of his father, Ed. Later, Jason merges with another homeless man and, wanting to be more of a good guy, seeks out some wrongs to right. He comes across a woman whom he talks out of jumping from a bridge. She reveals that she has been given a month to live and asks for Jason's help in healing her. He attempts to remove her cancer by imposing healthy cells on her mapped from another woman, but she reveals herself as an old Firestorm foe, Killer Frost. Lorraine, who has been following Jason, arrives in time to pull him some distance away from her.

Jason has been tricked into curing her and has greatly increased her powers in the process. Jason turns Frost's ice into hydrogen, at which point Frost retreats. While Lorraine goes to get help, Jason pursues Frost. When he finds her, she has taken several people hostage. When Jason agrees to her unspecified demands, she kills them and reveals it was simply a test of the new hero. She begins to absorb his heat but he manages to break free and escape. After releasing his homeless partner near a hospital, Jason continues his escape on foot. Lorraine finds him once more and insists that he do something to stop Frost. Jason merges with Lorraine against her will. Out of the merge arises... Ronnie Raymond.

During a brief lull, Ronnie meets Jason and reunites with Lorraine. Ronnie, still in control of Firestorm, seeks out Killer Frost but finds it difficult to deal with her new powers. During the fight, Ronnie and Lorraine begin to dissipate similar to the way Stevie Golek did. Jason asserts control over Firestorm and stops Killer Frost by removing the healthy cells that he imposed on her. To avoid further disintigration of the two other occupants, Jason ends the merger and Ronnie seemingly dissappears. Jason and Lorraine are brutally attacked by a deformed Killer Frost, but she is scared away by approaching police before she can kill either of them. When Jason regains consciousness in the hospital, he finds Alvin watching over him and the two seem to reconcile, at least temporarily. As they talk, Jason once again hears Ronnie's voice in his mind, alerting him to a problem.

Alvin and Jason have an argument, in which Jason stands up to Alvin. Jason leaves the hospital and attempts to turn into Firestorm without merging with another person. It works. Killer Frost listens as Jason talks to Ronnie. She makes a phone call to someone interested in Ronnie's return. Ronnie asks Jason to take him to Ed Raymond's home. On the way, Ronnie takes control of Firestorm to extinguish a fire. Their wait at the Raymond's home is interrupted by a news flash about a strange storm over Detroit. Jason and Ronnie return as Firestorm, only to be confronted by Typhoon, Multiplex and the Thinker.

	Countdown to Infinite Crisis

He plans to steal the krptonite from Kord Industries, but someone beats him to it. Unconcerned, he says that they have other means of producing krytonite. As he speaks, we see a nearby screen that shows he is monitoring Firestorm, among others.

Mistakenly believing that Multiplex's duploids aren't real beings, Jason kills several of them, causing Ronnie to become upset with him. Ronnie takes control of the merge and defeats Typhoon. Just as they begin to understand Multiplex's and Typhoon's enhancements, the Ronnie-controlled Firestorm is devastated by a mental attack by The Thinker. Meanwhile, Alvin is trying to take steps to turning his life around but wonders if he's pushed Jason too far away.

With his two accomplices now neutralized, Thinker launches a devastating attack on both Ronnie and Jason. He projects thoughts of the torture and death of their friends and family into their minds. He also manipulates Ronnie into slamming himself into the ground. Ronnie is weakened to the point where Jason regains control of the merger. Once more in the mindscape, Ronnie appears to be fading quickly. With Cliff distracted by the change in appearance, Jason manages to blast him and make an escape. Ronnie, however, tells Jason that they need to return to finish the job or risk the safety of everyone they know. They return and manage to liquify the chips in Cliff's head, ending his threat. However, the effort has taken its toll and Ronnie is fading quickly. After giving Jason some encouragement, he disappears completely. The next day, Jason makes a trip to visit the Raymonds and tell them about their son.

The two seem to have come to terms somewhat, but Jason tells Alvin that he's moving into an apartment with his friend Mick. Later, Jason and Mick meet some of their oddball neighbor as they move into their dingy apartment. Jason begins working a S.T.A.R. lab's Detroit branch, which he finds is in the process of being closed. Returning to the site of the experiment-gone-wrong, we see that one of the scientists, Dr. Hastur, is turning into something new. He is only saved from disintigration by a shadowy figure whose intentions seem less than noble. Out in far space, something stirs.

While Jason is out getting pizza for the employees, Dr. Hastur enters looking for Firestorm, whom he blames for his transformation into the Pionic Man. Jason transforms into Firestorm. While the Pionic Man seems to have the upper hand in the ensuing fight, Jason manages to damage Hastur's containment suit, forcing him to withdraw. Wounded and weary, Jason returns to his apartment where he collapses, as Firestorm, on the floor. Dr. Otaki, coming by to share some brownies with her neighbors, finds Firestorm laying unconscious on the floor of Jason's apartment.

Jason returns to his apartment, where he is ambushed by Amazo, working on behalf of the Secret Society of Supervillains. He is hauled away captive.

To avoid capture and to disrupt their plans, the Six release lower the containment field holding Jason and mysterious female. While Jason confronts his captors, the Six make their escape.

Jason notices that he is trapped with another being, a teenage girl. To even the odds, Jason emits an enormous blast of energy, throwing the villains off for a time. He has a few moments to collect himself and escape with the unusual girl, whose similarly unusual name is Gehenna. It doesn't take too long for the villains to overtake and try to recapture the two. Meanwhile, in far space, the Thanagarians have overrun a planet and are subduing an energy being that tried but failed to protect the planet's inhabitants. The being, struggling to survive, releases a deep roar. At that precise moment, back on earth, Jason gains a surge of energy with which he frees himself. Gehenna transports herself and Jason out of immediate danger, only to be found again. This time, however, the pair manage to fight their way free. Jason detonates a large power storage cell and the two escape the facility as it explodes. Before they can talk, Gehenna is teleported away and Jason is left alone in the jungle.

Arriving in San Francisco, he finds his way to S.T.A.R. labs. There, Firestorm meets Dr. Phaedon, who formerly worked at the Detroit branch. As they try to diagnose his problems, the lab experiences various failures and angry words fill up the monitors. Just as these problems surface, Gerry, another employee is converted into an OMAC by Brother I. Jason manages to halt the OMAC. They soon discover that Dr. Phaedon's estranged wife, who he had miniaturized, is behind the problems in the lab. She comes to their aid, however, by helping them see the nanobots that were responsible for transforming Gerry into an OMAC. Seeing these, Jason is able to transmute them into water, resulting in severe damage to Gerry and Mrs. Phaedon's dissappearance, but an end to the OMAC threat. Returning to his Detroit apartment, Jason discovers Mick moving out. Mick, as it turns out, had been replaced by Amazo weeks ago and is returning home. Jason also discovers that his branch of S.T.A.R. labs has being shut down. Without an income, Jason is resigned to postponing college for another year and possibly returning home to live with his father.

Lorraine Reilly comes to let Firestorm know that he's needed in San Francisco. There, he is asked by Donna Troy to accompany her on a mission into deep space. While talking, Gehenna appears and asks Jason to help with a problem with her father. Jason sees Donna's mission as a higher priority so Gehenna leaves, upset. Jason, with Mick inside, agrees to go with Donna. In deep space, the fire entity seen in #17 is observing Jason. Looking into Jason's future, he sees something that causes him great anguish. He kills his Thanagarian captives and rushes out to meet Jason.

She leaves, seemingly having gained some new abilities of her own from the experience. With the Firestorm entity rebuilt and the impurity removed, Martin and Jason rejoin to form an all-new version of Firestorm.

She sents the beam to Northern Australia, where a handful of the team emerges. The group waiting for them is horrified to see that much of the team has undergone violent physical changes. Among them is Firestorm and Cyborg, who are completely fused together.

The league responds, but so do several dozen newly minted heroes of Lex Luthor's everyman project.Jason sees Skeets and asks him if he knows the cause of the attack. As Skeets blasts Firestorm, he reveals that it is his plan to draw out a hero who is hiding from him. Skeets, frustrated that his opponent is not appearing ups the ante by incinerating many of the amateur heroes while the league members scramble to protect everyone. After killing Super-Chief, Skeets leaves. The new league is disgraced and disbands.

Lorraine relates how Martin managed to separate Firestorm and Cyborg using the JLA's transporter to extract the stored biological profile of Firestorm. Jason mentions that Martin has dissappears. Lorraine promises to begin looking for Martin as soon as the problem with Black Adam is resolved. Jason mentions that the matrix was configured for a merge between Jason and Martin and that complications might arise from Lorraine's entrance into the matrix.

In the rubble, they find a body that is wired with circuitry that may have been responsible for enhancing the blast. As they leave the testing ground, Jason's partner insists that they split to talk. The partner is revealed to be Lorraine Reilly. They discuss the difficult situation they've in since the dissappearance of Martin Stein. Jason is determined to find Martin. As they make plans, a group of men appear and try to kidnap Jason and Lorraine. They place an inhibitor on Jason that prevents him from initiating the Firestorm merge. Lorraine becomes Firehawk and defends herself. As the vehicle containing Jason speeds away, he tries to tell his captors that he can't be more than a mile away from Lorraine due to an instability in the matrix. They ignore him. Suddenly, light emits from his eyes. It grows until the entire vehicle is consumed in a ball of fire.

Jason recalls that, shortly before his dissappearance, Martin spoke of "The Neocaust Files", a secretive plan having to do with nuclear explosions. Together, Jason and Lorraine return to Washington DC where Lorraine gives a key speech that convinces Congress to watch military research spending more carefully. Returning to New York, they stop at Martin's apartment but are unable to find anything related to the Neocaust Files. They return to Jason's apartment where Gehenna is waiting. Gehenna is concerned that Jason's life is too crowded for her. They see on television that Killer Frost is attacking New York. As Jason and Lorraine prepare to leave, Alvin appears in the doorway. Jason hasn't contacted him since returning from space. Lorraine goes to confront Killer Frost alone but Jason is forced to join her to prevent her from being overpowered. As they work on a strategy to take Killer Frost down, Firestorm is suddenly knocked down by a blast from Mister Freeze's cryonic gun.

Once there, she abandon's Firestorm and basks in the warmth of the Sun, obvious to the chain reaction she's causing that may eventually destroy the sun. Jason is at a loss what to do and wishes Martin were there to help. This thought, coupled with a big power surge due to his being so near to the sun, breaks through the barrier that was preventing Jason from sensing Martin. Martin appears inside of the Matrix. He is in captivity and has been mistreated. He tells Jason and Lorraine how they might deal with Killer Frost. Before he can finish saying where he is being held, an ominous figure appears, gazing at Jason and Lorraine, and the connection is lost. Firestorm slows the matter around Killer Frost to absolute zero and encases her in ice. He transports her back to New York, where she nearly escapes before Batman refreezes her with Freeze's gun. Batman has come to claim Freeze. He notes Firestorm's progress but tells him in no uncertain terms that he should be a better hero by now. Jason is intimidated at first, but then amused by his own reactions to Batman. Best of all, he has the knowledge that Martin is alive and at least one lead to follow.

Following the signal, he finds the last remaining OMAC in combat with a squadron of fighter jets. Firestorm has little luck dealing with the OMAC and is eventually knocked through the Hoover Dam. Rather than pursue the OMAC, Firestorm stays to repair the dam but alerts the Teen Titans of the OMAC's presence.

He helps Firestorm deal with some minor damage downstream from the dam, which is now repaired. The two seem to be a little uncomfortable with each other, most likely due to the time they spent merged together. Jason reveals that he was once a Scout with the nickname of "Little Beaver". When the OMAC reemerges in the Las Vegas strip, they catch up with him. Firestorm knocks the OMAC into the steel beam of a ride, then is forced to save the ride's passengers while the OMAC escapes once more.

Jason and Lorraine discover Martin's files in his apartment. From them, they find that Martin was looking into secret research being conducted in a condemned building on the college campus. As Jason and Lorraine merge, they discover that their powers are greatly diminished from their experience on the sun. During one of Martin's interrogations, Firestorm bursts into the room. While the Pupil escapes with Martin, Firestorm attempts to deal with his robotic Dollies. Jason admits that Firestorm is too weak to deal with them, so he and Lorraine separate so Firehawk can deal with the Dollies. Their plan appears to be going well, but both are captured. Only Gehenna, who has remained hidden, is free. The Pupil wheels the bed to which Martin is strapped back into the room. To Jason's shock, Martin has just died from the Pupil's treatment. Curious as to what will happen, the Pupil encourages Jason to merge with Martin.

As they discuss their plans to revive Martin, Gehenna is caught. The Pupil seems to know of her. Jason must decide between rescuing Gehenna and taking action before Martin gives in. Jason, knowing that Gehenna has powers to keep her safe, decides to aid Martin. With a blast of energy, he manages to stablize him. In the meantime, the Pupil begins experimenting on Gehenna, but is prevented by the lead dolli who wishes to see no more pain. At that moment, Firestorm breaks free from the table he was bound to and tears into the dollies. The Pupil and lead dolli manage to escape. Martin reappears and tells Jason that he's about to die for good. Jason pushes Martin to come up with a plan to save Martin - they seperate and Jason and Lorraine Firestorm rebuilds Martin's body based on some scans taken by The Pupil. While Lorraine leaves for Washington DC, Jason and Gehenna return Martin to his apartment. Gehenna informs Jason that she's leaving him because he once again chose something else over her. The next day, Jason arrives at his Uncle Liam's house only be be greeted by his father and long-lost mother. In DC, Lorraine sits down to do some of her work but is interrupted by a man in costume flying in, calling himself Firestorm.

Their search for clues is interrupted by a creature encased in a giant plasma body. Through teamwork, they manage to disable the creature by turning the outer body in lead. When they return to New York, Martin finds out that Jason is troubled because of his meeting with his returned mother. She and Alvin are considering restarting their family, but Jason is too hurt due to her leaving them. As Jason and Martin talk, the other Firestorm arrives asking for Martin's help. Jason is ready to defend Martin until Lorraine arrives and introduces the other Firestorm as Mikhail Arkadin. Mikhail had regained his powers through a nuclear accident and was operating under the name Firestorm, not knowing that another Firestorm had returned. Mikhail planned to take the name Pozhar, his original identity. As they talk, a group of enhanced dollies appear to attack the group, apparently sent by a shadowy villain.

Martin mentions that there have been a string of nuclear disasters across the globe over the past year, and they are likely tied to their current problems. Jason runs to his Uncle Liam's house, three hours late for dinner. Alvin reveals that he has no money and is about to lose his house. The two begin arguing. At one point, Alvin lunges at Jason to hit him but Jason knocks him flat, seemingly displaying some of his Firestorm strength outside of the matrix. At S.T.A.R. labs, Dr. Kennedy helps the team release the Pionic Man so he can be questioned. Out in space, work is shown progressing on an enormous dolli carrying a "Hewitt Industries" plaque on its arm.

Lorraine, Martin and Mikhail pay a visit to Hewitt Enterprises and meet Victor Hewitt, the heir to the company who has no love for his father Henry, once known as the villain Tokamak. At the same time, Jason tracks down Gehenna and the two reconcile. Together, they decide to investigate a facility in upstate New York that might be a warehouse for nuclear weapons. There, they encounter but deal with human-like plasma beings. Jason reveals that Mr. Terrific has been teaching him how to fight. As they explore the facility, Jason and Gehenna find that the telepathic bond between them is suddenly restored. As they examine some "resting chambers", they also hear the voice of the mysterious villain, who appears and reveals himself as Henry Hewitt, now returned to become a new, more powerful Tokomak.

Martin convinces him to let go of her. Gehenna explains that she grew up in the facility but that her father - the only person she knew until recently - dissappeared about a year ago. Martin thinks to ask, via Jason, if her father is a short-haired Asian man. Gehenna says that he is and they realize that her father is Victor Hewitt. They go to his offices to confront him, finding him in the form of Tokomak. Tokomak subdues Gehenna with an engrained codeword and explains what he has been doing. After his previous encounter with Firestorm in which he presumed dead, he started a cloning program to create a new body for himself. He named his creations "dollies", after Dolly the cloned sheep. He made several clones and merged with the most physically sound one to pose as his own son. He then continued his research into recreating Firestorm by planting dollies at the site of nuclear accidents that he provoked, killing some and giving others powers. One such "accident" caused the creation of the Pionic Man. He grew so fond of another of his clones, Gehenna, that he decided to raise her as a daughter until she reached adolesence, at which point he sold her to Lex Luthor to power a reality-changing machine. Hewitt sold some of his cloning technology to Vandal Savage in exchange for radioactive material. Currently, Hewitt intends to detonate dozens of devices at nuclear sites, dispelling energy that will be collected by a gigantic dolli in space and redirected to Hewitt. He claims to be doing this to teach the danger of nuclear proliferation but, as a side effect, he'll become immensely powerful. Lorraine arrives and confronts Hewitt, her one-time captor and the one responsible for her transformation. Martin also asks Jason to split Firestorm apart long enough for Martin to slug the Pupil, who is in the room. Suddenly, Hewitt speaks Lorraine's codeword and she turns on Firestorm. She is about to overpower Firestorm when Jason asks her to remember who she is. She then merges into Firestorm and the three of them knock Tokomak to the ground. They're unable to stop the countdown to nuclear destruction, though, finding that the detonator is keyed to Tokomak's body. Hearing this, Jason decides to split Henry Hewitt from the clone's body so Tokomak will no longer exist. Martin strongly objects. The move is successful, but it kills Hewitt. Before dying, he taunts Jason that he knows why he became Firestorm and that Jason will no longer have a chance of knowing.

They return them to earth and S.T.A.R. labs using a giant net that they create from an asteroid. Jason mentions that Martin is still very upset over the use of their powers on Tokomak. Mikhail informs them that he has found the Pionic Man. He's sitting in a diner with the dollie who saved Lorraine's life, making plans to move in together. Lorraine and Mikhail leave together to go on a walk while Gehenna and Jason talk. She understands that her father was supposed to die a long time ago. The Pionic Man and dollie interrupt, observing that the winter storm is unusually fierce. Jason decides to talk to Martin about it, realizing that Martin has been avoiding him. They find him in his apartment. Martin angrily explains that he's been sick since they transformed Tokomak and they disrupted molecular motion in the region, causing the storm. While Martin is still angry, he agrees to help Jason. They eliminate the problem by absorbing some quantum wormholes which have been trapping heat. Martin observes that they'll have to do the same thing in several places before the problem is averted and asks Jason to consider that his actions have consequences. Before leaving to see the ball drop with Gehenna, Jason speaks to Alvin on the phone. The conversation is awkward but cordial. His parents spend New Year's Eve together, as do Jason and Gehenna, Mikhail and Lorraine, the dollie and the Pionic Man.

Jason meets Gehenna at a coffee shop, where they decide to go to Jason's apartment to watch movies. Waiting for them is Shilo, who explains that Martin's recent research into the Firestorm matrix has gained the attention of the New Gods. Jason pulls Martin from a lecture so he can hear Shilo's warning. As they talk, Shilo is alerted by his Mother Box that trouble is about to arrive. Orion arrives, demanding that Firestorm hand over Martin. Firestorm manages to knock Orion away and transmute a stone arch into lead, stopping him. He then encases Orion in a box of solid titanium. Subdued, Orion explains that the pieces of a critical equation are found in the source of elemental powers. Suddenly, the Female Furies of Apokalips arrive to attack Firestorm and Mr. Miracle. They manage to knock Shilo out and capture Firestorm, under orders to bring Martin back with them. They open to boom tube to return to Apokalips just as Gehenna and Firehawk appear to stop them.

Firestorm is temporarily knocked out and dragged into a boom tube, but recovers to defeat Lashina by turning her whip into glass. He knocks her out and brings her back through the boom tube entrance. Gehenna transports Bernadeth into the ocean with her and leaves her there. Mister Miracle slaps an anti-gravity disc onto Mad Harriet and tosses her into the air. Orion frees himself from the titanium box and buries Stompa in a pile of cars. As the fight winds down, Metron appears inside of the Firestorm matrix to speak with Martin and Jason. He informs them that Martin has come close to discovering a key part of an anti-entropy equation - one that would defy Darkseid and his search for the anti-life equation. Later, Jason explains the issue to the group. Orion proposes that Firestorm move to New Genesis, but both Jason and Martin decline. As they talk, a new boom tube opens and an enhanced Kalibak steps out, stating that he was take Martin and destroy the earth. Kalibak quickly takes down Orion and Mister Miracle with his increased strength and psi beams. Outside another tube appears in the sky and the city fills with parademons, who Kalibak has ordered to tear the city apart if Martin is not delivered.
