Mick Wong
Mick has been
Jason's best friend since fourth grade. He is roughly Jason's age, perhaps a little older. Mick is already attending a nearby college.
Mick and Jason are able to discuss nearly everything. While they share many hobbies and interests, Jason is also able to discuss his troubled home life with Mick. Mick appears to be somewhat better grounded than Jason, putting him in a position to offer good advice. When Jason takes the courier job for
Stevie Golek, for example, Mick instantly recognizes the danger that Jason chooses not to see.
Ever since Jason acquired the powers of Firestorm, he has spent more and more time enjoying his powers while neglecting his friendship with Mick. Growing concerned for Jason and tired of being ignored, Mick decided to visit Jason on a particularly rough day for Jason. Rather than explain his predicament, Jason merges with Mick and shows him some of the less noble perks of being a super hero.
As the fall semester approached, Mick and Jason decided to move into an apartment together. On a tight budget, they found an apartment in one of the more run-down parts of town,
Upon returning from being kidnapped by the Secret Society of Supervillains, Jason discovered that he hadn't been living with Mick at all, but with Amazo who was tasked with watching Jason. Mick had been kidnapped and held hostage. Upon his release, he retreived his items and left, scolding Jason for not realizing that it hadn't been him all along.
Mick soon returned to apologize. Jason, wanting to explain the reason for some of their troubles, reveals to Mick that he is Firestorm. When Mick doesn't believe him, Jason merges with him. When Firestorm is summoned by Donna Troy to join her on her mission into space, Mick agrees to remain merged for the mission, largely for the sake of adventure. During the course of their mission, though, Mick grows up quickly as he sees first-hand the effects of war.
As Firestorm attempts to save alien vessels from a rift opening in space, his powers begin to consume Mick. Mick insists that they stay to assist the sleeing aliens and, as a result, he is consumed when the strain is too great.
Martin Stein, the Elemental Firestorm, is able to save Jason but is unable to save Mick.
